"Facebook Replacing News Feeds with Real-Time Status Streams

JR Raphael, PC World

Mar 4, 2009 5:20 pm

Facebook is taking a cue from Twitter and retooling its home page to include real-time status streams with advanced options for customization. The change was announced at a media event at Facebook's Palo Alto headquarters Wednesday.
The New Home Page

The updated home page design, set to go live by the middle of next week, is anchored by the newly named Stream (previously known as the News Feed). The Facebook Stream shows your friends' activity as it occurs, with automatic refreshing built into the page. The status update box, now branded as Publisher, simply asks: "What's on your mind?" Any text, photos, or video entered into it go straight into your profile and onto your friends' home pages at the same time." READ MORE

This is a very interesting turn of events! A must read for Facebook fans :)

Check it out, quite an article, Thanks JR Raphael at PC World :)

Blogs and Social Networks Music Sites for Bands

Marketing the Band, Artist, or Musician, Rock Star, Group, Photographer, Singer or Songwriter online with Blogs and Social Networks will take time, patience, and perseverance ... a little bit each day, one step at a time :)

Depending on your budget of time and money, you can market your band 100% free (more time spent) or 50% free (financially more, a bit less time spent) ( fast tracking the blog platform (around 10 dollars or less a month I think) at a site like HostGator.com. They will "host" your Wordpress blog so that advertising will not be misconstrued as "spam" :)

Secure the domains (Your Band Name.com) from a site like GoDaddy.com all if you wish or just dot com (for your "main" site, the one you want most people to go to), dot info (for your blog), and dot net (for a big social network you choose) redirect these to the url from the blog, social network, or other site of yours.:)And check into getting the Trademark at USPTO.Gov/Main/Trademarks.htm
to "set your online security for your logo, name, etc. as yours :)

Starting your own Ning or Wetpaint social network at Ning.com or Wetpaint.com is an on-going project (a slow and go OR a fast action, get it up and running in a week sort of project, but not crazy important if you do not have the time because these sites take a Lot of time :)

Connecting Twitter to your Facebook (no, you cannot have a Facebook for your band, but you can have a Facebook profile for yourself, then start a "Group" for your band :) Keep your reach connected for a triple dose to Google :)

Ok, here are some of the coolest social networks geared toward Bands more than listeners (well, some listeners more, but I will let you know which is which :)

Let's start with HumbleVoice.com :) Humble Voice is a social network community of Artists and those who appreciate them. Yes, I said Artists (photographers, writers, singers, bands, fine arts, dance, painters, sketch artists, you name it :) This is an all inclusive artsy social network for the creative! Very cool site ... Two High Thumbs Up :)

PureVolume.com is a music social network to definitely check out if you are a band or musical talent to use to promote your sound.

MySpace.com (of course :) The number one Music Social Network for Bands!

indabamusic.com This is a social network for musicians and music professionals. Take a tour right from the home page even before you sign up for free. (Oh...All these social networks listed are a free sign up deal :) This site allows for musicians to work in online recording sessions mixing tracks anywhere in the World. Find Musicians, Get Hired, or Create Virtual Bands :) Mix and edit audio in browser with online music software and compete in online remix and collaboration contests :) Yes, this one sounds like a keeper, check it out!

LastFM.com being what it is, don't miss out setting up a profile here :) Last FM is a Staple, it has it's limits as all social networks do, but a definite music social network for bands to investigate and set up a profile at :)

FloTones.com is an artist or separate fan set up site, meaning you can sign up as either an artist or a fan (most music social networks offer this as an option, but this one is cool) Submit your indie content with a lengthy list of genre categories :)

iLike.com is semi-similar to ProjectPlaylist.com in being geared heavily toward the listener :) ProjectPlaylist has an embeddable widget player to take with you to your other blogs and social networks too :)

JamNow.com in Beta is Rockin' Looking :) You will need Mac, Vista or XP; DSL or Cable Modem; Sound Card or Digital Audio Interface to get up and running here. Register free as an artist or a fan. This one looks like a keeper as well :)

R4Media.biz is a free sign up "Your Social Network and Music Store". Sell/Buy Music, Upload Tracks, R4Media gives you a personal URL (many social networks do, but worth saying to keep you consistent, meaning MySpace.com/Wavecritter, I use wavecritter everywhere, you should always use your band name or the other major keyword or URL Domain name) to be consistent.

MusiciansFriend.com is not a music social network but the best in my book for online musician supplies :)\

MusoCity.com is an online community for musicians and artists and those who love them :)

imeem.com where artists, fans, and friends promote content and discover and share music. This site has an embeddable widget player to take with you to your other blogs and social networks too :)

What Spout is watching today:

The Rules of the Game 1939

"Now often cited as one of the greatest films ever made, Jean Renoir's La Règle du jeu/Rules of the Game was not warmly received on its original release in 1939: audiences at its opening engagements in Paris were openly hostile, responding to the film with shouts of derision, and distributors cut the movie from 113 minutes to a mere 80. It was banned as morally perilous during the German occupation and the original negative was destroyed during WWII. It wasn't until 1956 that Renoir was able to restore the film to its original length. In retrospect, this reaction seems both puzzling and understandable; at its heart, Rules of the Game is a very moral film about frequently amoral people. A comedy of manners whose wit only occasionally betrays its more serious intentions, it contrasts the romantic entanglements of rich and poor during a weekend at a country estate. André Jurieu (Roland Toutain), a French aviation hero, has fallen in love with Christine de la Chesnaye (Nora Gregor), who is married to wealthy aristocrat Marquis Robert de la Chesnaye (Marcel Dalio). Robert, however, has a mistress of his own, whom he invites to a weekend hunting party at his country home, along with André and his friend Octave (played by Jean Renoir himself). READ MORE

Social Networks Geared Toward Ages?

Some Social Networks Attract by Age, while others have many ages from young to older.

Sites like Direct Matches attract a business minded crowd, generally between the ages of 20's to 30's through 50's and 60's. People with a business mindset, some Internet Marketers well known throughout the Internet, and others focusing solely on the Direct Matches site to market their online or offline businesses.

Other sites like Your Climbing for rock climbers will attract rock climbing enthusiasts, my guess is the ages here will be mainly in the late teens to 30 year olds ;) Some older of course, but maily around that age group. A "no brainer" you say? Pretty much just common sense. But what about Gaming Sites?

I think that Gaming choices are so varied that a blend of ages intermix in the gaming zones of the net. With card games, puzzles, MMORPGs, word games, mazes, and the like, every person has a favorite. With Ogre Island (my favorite lol), you play with everyone from senior citizens to very young children. The OI Staff keep the chat clean and it is a very family friendly game, free to play, and no download required :)

Various Social Networks Attract different age groups. MySpace has a healthy mix of age groups today but in the early days of MySpace, a lot of the younger crowd was attracted here mainly. Facebook started out in the late teen, twenty something crowd at first (when they were a college site strictly), but has progressed to include many ages along with organizations and groups set up for business, radio, Blogs and Social Networks, and Video Games and Gaming.

To Be Continued Tomorrow...

How To Avoid The "Scaries"

There are some incredible and remarkable on the Internet today. But, what does incredible and remarkable mean exactly? Most people see these words as positive from the first read or at first hearing. But, incredible could mean "so extraordinary as to seem impossible" OR it also means "not credible; hard to believe; unbelievable" Hmmmmm? Not credible? Quite another take from the norm and the masses, yes? Then, let's take a gander at the word Remarkable. Seth Godin says that remarkable simply means "something other people remark about" :)

Now, we all remark about incredible things like Home Runs, Perfect touchdowns, Beautiful Houses, Head Line News, Informative Blogs, and of course, The Weather. :)

We remark about both the "bad" and "good" in things. This blog topic is going to cover the remarkable in the arena of "Scaries On The Net".

There is a certain (unnamed) site out there who lets its visitors remain completely anonymous while bashing and dissing anyone, anytime, about anything, true or not with absolutely no owning up to the post whatsoever.

This is just an embarrassment to the site, the owner, and to to the faceless, nameless, cowards who read, post, and bash people while being AFRAID to use their own name as the author.

Spreading evil, nasty rumors online, speaking badly of others to the World, is GOING to come back to you whether you believe it is not or don't believe it. Liars Lie, Cheaters Cheat, Manipulators Manipulate, and Users Use. End of line. So, what can people who do not do this do about them? ..... Absolutely nothing! What we can do is decide how WE are going to deal with situations, How WE handle ourselves in this line of fire, abuse, and being taken advantage of.

Contrary to popular belief it is NOT Human nature to wish, do, or create bad situations for others. It is NOT Human nature to step on, HATE, or otherwise dismember an individual because that person is jealous, powerful, or just because they CAN.

If someone has harmed you, the more attention you focus on that situation, the more fuel you feed the fire. On most social networks you are able to send the inappropriate message to the Administrator of the site, if there is not an option to do this, plain and simply, do not visit that social network. Find friendlier social networks to enjoy.

Part 2 Of "Avoid The Scaries" will come tommorow...

Enjoy!

At Pownce, you can enhance these mini posts with uploaded files like You Tube Videos, but not just posting the link although you can do that as well, but post the link and the actual video here on Pownce.

Upload MP3's for others to download, upload a photo file for others to upload as well.

List all of your other social network profiles as a link on your home page too.

There is an option at Pownce to "go pro" for only $20 US a year.

Blogs and Social Networks Review By BlogHeiress

Age appropriate behavior at social networks.

When you are on a social network there are some things you should be cautious about. For instance your pictures that you put up. If you are on the younger side you probably should not be putting up pictures of you in that bikini or in revealing attire. You don't have to cover yourself up completely but don't show your entire body either. Now if you are 18 years old no one can tell you to be a little less revealing about what sorts of pictures you put up, but you do have to remember that anyone can see you and anyone can take these pictures and put them up on other sites that you might not know about. Also the sort of pictures and how you display yourself will have everything to do with the sort of people who decide to talk to you or ask you to be your friend. So if you don't want perverts coming to your page and being perverts then don't give them a reason to.
